Dispute over land in Southeast quarter of Section 28 in 2nd Fractional Township North, Range 2, in Ocoee District. O'Neal, assignee of David Cunningham, occupant holder of land at issue, possessed the land & had erected a grist mill thereon. Based on such occupancy, O'Neal applied to Lea to have land valued as a mill quarter & for entry on said land, but was refused on both counts, in violation of the recently passed law permitting same & for unlawful purpose of extorting higher price from O'Neal. |

Dispute over land in Ocoee District. Bruce had large farm, portion of which he had cleared as field. After land surveyed, survey line determined to run through that field, leaving Bruce's house in different quarter, & it's this quarter that is in dispute. Others mentioned: James Eaton, Lewis Ellis, Evins, James Nicholson, Scruggs, S. Finley. Jury ruled in favor of Williams. Adam Waterford, a free black slaveholder, filed suit against Baker two years earlier to prevent being ejected from his land. Waterford was indebted to Baker, & used his land to secure his debt. He also sold a slave called Walter Waterford, thought to be Adam's brother, to Baker for security. Waterford was also indebted to Deery. The suit was filed to clarify the ownership of Waterford's land, as it pertained to Waterford's debt to each party. |
