The plaintiff company, a corporation of Indiana, sued the defendant firm of attorneys in Columbia, Tennessee to hold them liable for a note sent to them for collection. The plaintiffs claimed the defendants collected money for the plaintiffs and then lost the money through their negligence in a bank that failed. No complete docket number.

View Entry 1890 G. R. Watkins v. W. H. Stone Sullivan Petition to Compel Payment

Plaintiff Watkins claimed that W. H. Stone failed to pay the entirety of a judgement rendered against Stone in favor of the plaintiff for about $30. Watkins claimed the defendant, through fraud, got the plaintiff to sign the receipt for the entire amount of the judgement and processed it with the Justice of the Peace. However, Watkins asserted that the defendant only gave him $5 and told him he had to sign the receipt before he would receive the rest of the money the following week, which he never did.

Thomas Dowell conveyed about 100 acres to the defendant shortly before his death for $400. Muncy claimed that the $400 was not paid, which the hiers and he discovered after Thomas' death. Muncy requested payment be enforced with the sale of the land.

View Entry 1888 J. Y. Cooper & wife v. Nathaniel Baxter Davidson Petition to Compel Payment

The plaintiff previously obtained a judgment in the case of Henry Chaffield v. J.Y. Cooper for the sum of $2,500 and costs. The sum as paid to N. Baxter as the Clerk of Court. When asked for the money, N. Baxter paid only $500, but refused to execute a note from the remaining sum. The plaintiff filed the bill to compel the defendant to deliver the remaining sum from the judgment.

Plaintiff is the administrator of the estate of F. H. Gordon. Defendant, as an heir to the deceased, collected money from the estate than he was entitled to receive. Plaintiff filed bill to force them to repay the difference.

The City sued for the recovery of $165.36 for the cost of constructing a sidewalk in front of the defendant's, Mary and F. E. Taylor, property at lot 8 Gillespie St. per the requirements of ordinance no. 472. Exhibit is a copy of ordinances no. 319 and no. 556 that contain the requirements for residents to install sidewalks and the streets that are subject to the ordinance.

View Entry 1886 Mayor & Aldermen of Chattanooga v. Joseph Ruohs Hamilton Petition to Compel Payment

The city sued Ruohs for violation of ordinance 1319 that mandated the contraction of a sidewalk along his property. The city paid for the construction and sued Ruohs to reimburse the $141.75.

George Brown, counsel for minor heirs of Barclay McGhee, dec., for an execution against Alexander Cleage, Thomas A. Cleage, & Samuel Cleage in favor of Clerk for the use of C.M. McGhee, et al., for sum of $5,646.30, which was paid in Confederate money. 2/3 was given to C.M. McGhee & Margaret W. Niles, the other 1/3 was supposed to be given to heirs of Barclay McGhee but was never paid to them but was still in the hands of the clerk, James L. Bridges, or in a bank.

Pyron sued Ruohs to compel him to pay Pyron's debt as security for a note executed by J. B. Pyron to Smaltz Monroe & Co. Ruohs had bought the stock of J. B. Pyron for $50,000, some of which was supposed to be paid to those with notes from Pyron.

Plaintiff Geers and defendant Heck were the owners, as tenants in common, of several tracts of coal land in Campbell and Anderson counties. Geers owned 1/3 interest and Heck the other 2/3 interest. Geer claimed that Heck owed him several thousand dollars for rents, royalties, and profits made from the land for which Heck has never given Geer his 1/3 share as partial owner. There are 3 hand-drawn exhibit maps that show the tracts of land owned by the plaintiff and defendant.
