View Entry 1888 C. W. Davies v. State Davidson Assault with Intent to Kill

This is an appeal. Original case saw C.W. Davies accused of assault with intent to commit murder in the first degree. On June 26, 1888, Davies was said to have attacked Harry D. Martin with a club. Incident began over a perceived slur from Martin. Attack took place at Glendale Park, where Davies was a policeman, on the porch of the Casino, an amusement hall.

View Entry 1888 George King v. State Wilson Assault with Intent to Kill

This is an appeal. Original bill saw indictment of King on charges of assault with intent to commit murder in the second degree. On Oct. 27 1887, King said to have attacked & wounded Reuben Sullivan with a knife. Sullivan rented land from King. Sullivan stated he was hauling corn for King who confronted him in the field & stabbed him multiple times incurring shoulder, arm, torso & abdomen wounds. Argument possibly over percentage of crop each was due. King sentenced to 18 mos. In TN Penitentiary

View Entry 1888 State v. John H. Vickers [Vicars] DeKalb Assault with Intent to Kill

As his daughter Mary (16) was riding mare owned by her grandpa John Griffith (with whom she lived) on her way to church at Cooper's Chapel, John came from behind cedar bushes, dragged her off mare & beat her with a stick. He had beaten her before & made "improper proposals." At one point, Mary falsified affidavit "to try to restore [her father] to his position in the church." Mentioned: brother Jasper, sister Josie, grandfather Hord Vickers, uncles W.J. & J.P. Vickers, mom Lucy, Isaac Cooper.
