William M. Jeffries died during the Civil War, leaving his widow, & his daughter Ruth M. McTeer. The widow then married Joseph Miller, & Miller was legally bonded as Ruth's guardian. Ruth rec'd pension from her father's death; Miller handled her money. Ruth married A. J. L. McTeer, however, the court failed to make Miller renew his bond. Miller squandered her money, was ordered to turn repay her, however he was insolvent. |

Andrew and Mary Mitchell sued the judges of Hawkins County with failing to carry out their fiduciary responsibilities. Mitchell was bequeathed money, of which the court was assigned the disbursement. Mary Mitchell was a minor when the bequest was made, and as an adult she and her husband sued. |

Complainant prays for judgment against Boyd and Fulmer for $770.00, total indebtedness of contract, $3080.00, additional $17.95 claimed as deficiency in settlement. |

In 1866, Sawyers secured a deed of trust via William B. Cochran whereby he conveyed all interest in the mill to Cochran. Sawyers accused of fraud in sale to Edwin Henry. Ethan A. Sawyers joined the fray. Jabez Smith, a "half idiot," was cheated. File contains letter from U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice Morrison R. Waite. Oliver Caswell King was an attorney. |
