Concerns the ownership and opening of tavern houses.

Suit was originally brought against Elias Maddox, exe. for Betsy Harding, Sally Newsom's mother; the Newsoms had intended to pay for their land with this money. Dickinson replaced Maddox as exe. Stated charge is "covenant broken to [plaintiffs'] damage." "Harbert" is sometimes spelled "Herbert"; "Elias" is sometimes "Ellis." Plaintiffs' statement is signed by John Catron, later a member of the U.S. Supreme Court during the Dred Scott decision.

Crabb agreed to sell land for no less than $1200, giving Anderson half of the profits. Crabb then sold the land to Hezikiah Faris for $1280 and gave Anderson nothing. Anderson sued to recover the proceeds of the sale.

Curtis purchased a plot of land in Memphis, unaware of an unregistered Trust Deed on the land held by Donlon & Berry and sold to dfnt. Curtis' deed had been registered and was told the title was clear.

McClelland owed Caywood $210.53 and Caywood sued to recover the debt. McClelland left the area to avoid the debt.

Pennington sued for $10,000 for Breach of Promise to Marry and Seduction. Pennington and Ferguson were participating in an affair, and were actually caught in the act by the defendant's wife in Dyersburg. Ferguson fathered at least one of Pennington's children from this affair. He repeatedly promised to divorce his wife to marry Pennington. Breach of Promise to Marry and Seduction were treated as separate charges. See WT1744 for child support suit.

There were contracts and deals made for street railways to be built throughout Memphis, but the Aldermen of the city did not follow through with their end of the deal to carry out such work.

In 1920, one J. H. Richardson wanted to procure a residence in said county and consummated a trade between the parties by which Robinson would get the Melton residence and then Richardson could rent it. It was then agreed that Robinson would swap Melton a business property for Melton's residence property and Robinson would pay Melton $250 for the difference. Before signing the deed, Robinson tried to get all three of Melton's properties, when only one was agreed upon. Melton refuses to pay back the $250.

Case involves a request for repayment of what was essentially a mortgage on a cotton crop not yet planted. Folder includes several pages of legal briefs.
