Original bill was a complaint about the collection of a trust fund by P. V. Hunter in his capacity of agent of the plaintiff, for which it made a bond by depositing with the company $2 per week out of the collected commissions. Hunter also sued insurer for $50,000, alleging that upon retirement the company had tried to libel him with these charges. Exhibit materials are checks and ledgers. Pennington and Ferguson were participating in an affair, and were actually caught in the act by the defendant's wife in Dyersburg. Ferguson fathered at least one of Pennington's children from this affair. He repeatedly promised to divorce his wife to marry Pennington. Breach of Promise to Marry and Seduction were treated as separate charges. See WT1744 for child support suit. |

In 1920, one J. H. Richardson wanted to procure a residence in said county and consummated a trade between the parties by which Robinson would get the Melton residence and then Richardson could rent it. It was then agreed that Robinson would swap Melton a business property for Melton's residence property and Robinson would pay Melton $250 for the difference. Before signing the deed, Robinson tried to get all three of Melton's properties, when only one was agreed upon. Melton refuses to pay back the $250. |

The argument is based on the interpretations of the Bank Law of 1911 and the Constitution. This law states that it is a felony to accept a deposit, as an officer of a financial institution, known to be insolvent. |

In Nashville, Bates rec'd from Josie Barnes a $2,000 check, representing insurance proceeds on the life of her deceased husband Thomas. Bates received the funds as Josie's agent for the purpose of depositing it in a Bedford County bank. Instead, Bates appropriated $825 of that money for his own use. Bates lived in Bedford County at Haley's Station. Josie lived in Nashville. (While case ongoing, Josie married S. D. Seals.) Jury convicted Bates & sentenced him to 18 mos. in the penitentiary. |
