Plntff. sole beneficiary by assignment of James LaRue. He brought suit to collect on 2 unpaid notes originally due to LaRue. One note was secured in a Deed of Trust executed by Randolph. The other note was for $115 given to LaRue by Francis; Francis used a 135-acre tract of land that he owned as security. Plntff. asked the court to foreclose the Deed of Trust by a sale of the land & that the proceeds from the sale be used to satisfy his debts. |

Self then failed to convey title. Dispute also involves 333-acre tract in Jefferson Cty. Chancery court district then included Cocke & Jefferson Counties. Oversized case. |

Suit brought by Jacob Keller, William Keller, Alex Keller, and Henry Keller against Minnie Park, Cora Ramsey, Rosa Thompson, Lillie Talley, Sarah Ann Buckner, and Elizabeth Balch, daughters of James Keller, deceased. Two wills were known, and the second contained a revoking clause. It was alleged that Cora Ramsey and Lillie Talley destroyed that will for the purpose of cheating complainants and depriving them of the estate. |

Swan, & Robt. McFarland. The original bill and exhibits process of Injunction were lost in a fire. In 1859 McMahan purchased the Walden Jenkins entry from James Baxter. Due to "some kind of irregular proceedings" in the courts, the whole tract was sold to Caton for $500 without title. Addl. case materials in ET 1895. |

The defendant in error brings suit against Parrot, the admr. of M. B. Wells dec. The defendant, father of M. B. Wells, accuses Parrott of exercising undue influence over his son, who he claims was of unsound mind. At the time of his death M. B. Wells was being cared for by Parrott and allegedly expressed frustration towards his family. Casefile notes that M. B. Wells was considered a well-educated man, having attended Bascom [?] College to study law after, "the war." |

Scheme failed, Asbury convicted of counterfeiting & died. Dispute over land (which Clark gave to stepson Cabe). |

Plaintiff procured charter to erect bridge across river Frenchbroad, with location described as being "above William Faubion's mill dam" & also a road from the bridge to a "meeting house below Stephen Huff's". During construction of bridge, Plaintiff dealt with Roadman (over whose land part of works extended), who ultimately acquired deed of trust to bridge to secure debts of Plaintiff. Pulliam was trustee on deed of trust. |

Susie Proffitt was the wife of David Proffitt. She stated that David Proffitt abandoned her and their two children. Mr. Proffitt owned a tract of land that was condemned. The land was sold by the county to W. H. Large. Mrs. Proffitt claimed that the "conveyance by the Sheriff of Cocke County to W. H. Large is void because at the time the levy was made she was actually occupying said land as a homestead." |

Waddill claimed ownership of a tract of land in the 1st civil district of Cocke County. Black entered the property and ejected him, also cliaming ownership. Waddill stated that Black had previously acknowledged in court he was not the owner but that the record was lost when the Cocke County court house burned on December 30, 1876. Waddill sought confirmation of his ownership, an injunction to halt Black from further removing/selling timber, and damages. Exhibits are 2 maps of land in dispute. |

Carter bought the disputed land from Joseph Frances & his wife, Elizabeth (King) Frances. J. Frances executed a title bond. Land originally belonged to Elizabeth's father, James King. While a feme covert, Elizabeth refused to execute a deed to the land after the title bond was executed. She left ca. 1833. Female plntffs. were her only children & the male plntffs. were their husbands. |

Eliza Hurley is the widow of D. C. Hurley. The point at which he died during the suit is unclear. |
