Incident began over a perceived slur from Martin. Attack took place at Glendale Park, where Davies was a policeman, on the porch of the Casino, an amusement hall. |

Amanda Hudson was in her home when a described Negro man came into her kitchen and tried to grab her. She and her children ran outside, grabbed rocks and sticks, and beat the man until he ran away when he saw a neighbor coming with a shotgun. He was apprehended 4 miles away. Defense claims the police arrested the wrong man because they lost the actual perpetrator. |

Plaintiff and Fuller were at Dick Arnolds store and saloon on the corner of Murfreesboro Pike and Fairfield Ave. when they began to argue about a cigarette. Fuller left the store and the plaintiff followed him out. The plaintiff asked Fuller if he wanted to fight and then shot him. Casefile notes Fuller lives on Fairfield Ave. in South Nashville. |

Result of jury trial was sentence of 10 yrs. in TN State Penitentiary Plaintiff, who lived at the Carney Boarding House and had been engaged to Laura, attempted to kill her once she ended their relationship. Plaintiffs lawyers claimed insanity, as two Monahan first cousins suffered this condition. |

John Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson, and Charles Clark, each referred to in the case as "colored," as accused of assaulting Patrick Saunders with stones, bricks, and rocks in an attempt to beat him to death. Saunders was over 96 years old and lived near Neely's Bend. He was in bed & saw the def's outside setting fire to his corn crib, & saying they were going to burn his barn with the mules in it. He went out and protested; they beat him. |

A few months later Ella Hooper alleged Swanson attempted a second attack. The trial focused on the credibility of Ella verses Swanson. The court sided with Ella Hooper, however there were legal questions related to the case. |

Indictment on three counts for 1. assault with intent to commit murder, 2. assault with intent to commit murder in second degree, 3. assault with intent to commit manslaughter. Victim was George W. Marshall. The attack occurred on Sept. 6, 1875. Sup. Ct quashed the third count and defendant plead guilty to assault and battery. At trial, jury held defendant not guilt on counts 1 and 2 of the indictment, but guilty on the assault and battery charge. |
