Plaintiff Margaret Hockeryos, widow of Franz Hockeryos (died 8/25/1889), sued the defendant railroad for $25,000 in damages for the negligent injury and, three days later, death of her husband as a passenger on the train. This massive case is split between two large bound volumes in two cases; box 1793 and 1794. |

Plaintiff Nancy E. Choate sued the defendant railway company for $30,000 in damages for the negligent and wrongful killing of her husband, John A. Choate, who left behind three children: Ella, Willie, and Maggie. Choate charged that the train failed to indicate its presence with a whistle or attempt to brake, resulting in the train running over the plaintiff's husband and causing him to suffer greatly and die. |

Other plaintiffs: George Bicknell (husband of Sarah). Bicknell filed suit for damages in death of Williams dec 1875 (who worked for railroad) in circuit court in Monroe County. That case went to the Supreme Court & she was awarded $6,000 damages & costs. Between the time the case was initially filed & the time of the SC judgement, the railroad was sold. Includes suit was to compel payment of the judgement against railroad. |

In original case, H. L. W. Rawlston, the plaintiff, sued the railway company for damages of $20,000 for the wrongful death of John Harris, an employee. Plaintiff claimed the railway company "wrongfully, negligently and carelessly permitted the stock in one of its smelting furnaces to fall, causing the flames to rush out" causing burns that led to John Harris's death. Harris had no will. The furnace was located in South Pittsburg, TN. $1,500 was awarded. The railway appealed. |

Mother died several years before accident. |
