Johns, a street sweeper, came upon an arc light that had been lowered by light co. for cleaning. Noticing light was not bright, the plaintiff went over to shake it. He grabbed a high voltage wire and was killed. Folder contains defendant brief. Family sued for damages arguing that the lighting wires were not properly insulated, resulting in the death. The plaintiff is the surviving partner in a business where he contracted with a Trustee of the Methodist Church, namely the defendants to whom they furnished $150 worth of materials. The defendants took $75 each out of the funds for materials, for which the plaintiff took them to court to be prosecuted for acting in bad faith. The church house blew down in 1865 while housing a great deal of valuable material and the defendants unlawfully took possession of it. |

Mrs. Alfred Harris car was stolen and stripped. Athens Insurance Co. placed it in the garage of the Chapman Motor Co. CMC refused to give Harris her car back until she pays for storage charges. They also advertised her car for sale. She claims she did not authorize the car to be stored there and sued for wrongful detainer. Case in 2 Folders in ET1008. Defendant was the widow of J. H. Harkleroad, aka J. F. Harkleroad. Mr. Harkleroad was killed suddenly at work by walking into or stumbling against the corner of a wooden box, perforating his intestines. Because fecal matter seeped into his gut, he died after developing peritonitis and gangrene. As the complainant's employee, he had a $1000 life insurance policy which his widow wanted to redeem. More than 25 people testified, and their names are indexed. |

Court invalidated agreement in light of circumstances surrounding it (made day after Ledbetter's death, small amt railroad paid for it). Issue on appeal: whether railroad had right to jury trial in lower court proceeding when it had previously waived such right. Opinion marked "for publication". |

Neely executed three promissory notes due in one, two and three years, with interest for $251.50, each payable to Baxter Smith for the use of Carter McKay & Co. with Bennett as security. These debts were past due, had been sued upon, & judgements rendered in favor of Smith. Bennett sued in order for his assets to be protected from attachment on debts by Neely. |

That case went to the Supreme Court & she was awarded $6,000 damages & costs. Between the time the case was initially filed & the time of the SC judgement, the railroad was sold. Includes suit was to compel payment of the judgement against railroad. |

Anderson was one of the first members & one of the first officers of Def. Solon Lodge, a Nashville benevolent society. Anderson's wife Caroline testified he was blind so she read things for him. This case involves a dispute that arose between Anderson & the Lodge over a financial disagreement resulting in Anderson's suspension. Def also said Anderson tried to seduce a young girl (Julia B.
