W. M. Wilhoit borrowed $8700 from Jarvis-Conklin Mortgage Co. to purchase land, & the mortgage was assigned to S. R. Coale. The land had a prior lien for $690 to T. L. Cate, alleged to have been filed by Coale. The law firm Gorree & Atkins sued to recover their fees, following defending Coale. |

Plaintiffs were from Massachusetts (bank located in Boston). Defendants from Georgia. Bank bought a promissory note from railroad to E. W. Kimball for $12,077.45 & Demerritt also bought a promissory note from railroad to Kimball for $8,060. Railroad refused to make payment to them on notes. |

John Bynum purchased machinery from East TN Iron Manufacturing Co. for a large scale steam tannery operation. He still owed about $2000 for the equipment. The iron company sued to recover this amount, suggesting a lien on five acres where the tannery stood. |

Additional defendant J. H. Burnett. Both parties purchased a tract of land jointly. They paid for part of the value and issued notes for the rest. Defendant Burnett conveyed his note and land to Wasserman. Plaintiff sought the payment from Wasserman. Plaintiff charged that the defendant did not pay his part of the note and the plaintiff had to pay both notes. Plaintiff was seeking the money from the defendant for his part of the purchase. |

Crosland sued Hugh L. McDaniel who then died intestate. Crosland was awarded $456 in damages. McDaniel had only $200 worth of property, eighty acres set aside for a dower. Crosland accused McDaniel of purposely refusing to register land so that it may not have a lien placed upon it. Crosland sued to settle the debt owed him by the McDaniel estate. |
