The board of trustees of the church had taken a promissory note from Delia Wilson. They did not repay. In an attempt to recover the money, she brought suit, attempting to establish whether each individual trustee was liable for the money. |

Carper loaned Underwood $40, offering a lot in Knox County as security. However, a suit filed against Underwood took the house and lot for money owed on a different loan, but the house was already mortgaged. Suit sought to recover debt, as well as settle the legal ownership of the property. |

Palmer owned a tract of land in Knox County which he purchased in 1888, but entered a verbal agreement with Cobb in 1901 whom issued a promissory note for the land. The agreement stated that if Cobb failed to pay the land automatically returned to Palmer. Cobb did fail to pay in full, so Palmer sued to enforce their verbal agreement and reestablish ownership of the land. |

The Tilleries owned a dairy, leveraging their livestock, and real estate for money loaned them. Hackney & Co. filed suit against S. D. Tillery & his brother James F. for a debt owed. |

Julius Ochs, Samuel Bissinger, & Nanny Frank were partners in Ochs & Co., a wholesalers in general merchandise. They sold goods to Wm. G. Price, whom failed to make payment. Price consigned the goods under an alias, John Dobins, to a retail merchant firm DBA as Brice & Thaxton. Ochs & Co. sued to recover payment & to uncover the fraud. |

Plaintiff John Rogers, an African-American, was a citizen of State of Mississippi. Bill of equity. re: land sale 25 Aug. 1872, tract of land within corporate limits of Knoxvile on New St., bounded by Lithgow St., transaction executed by promissory notes, failure to pay first payment on note. Vendors lien on remainder of purchase money due, $162.00 plus interest. |

Cawood & husband executed notes to Manard. Then Rosa's husband Charles died in 1894 from on overdose of chloroform during a surgery. The suit sought to recover the money from Cawood, but the estate was insolvent. Arguments question the legality of sued Mrs. Cawood, whether she was a legal party to the debt, or whether her husband made the debt & she was not liable. |
