Wm. Conner sold a plot of land to Rose. This lot was part of a larger tract owned by C. W. Coker. Conner claimed to be in full possession of the land when selling it to Rose, however, it was not until after the purchase that Rose found out Conner would not transfer the title nor would pay the purchase costs to Coker.

View Entry 1879 Bettie Kilter v. Sampson Cowan and Others Knox Land and Title Dispute

Additonal defendants Samuel Cowan, Mary Cowan aka Turk Brady. Kilter purchased land from Cowan who clailmed to own a homestead with whom he called his wife. Samuel Cowas was a man of color and Mary Cowas was a white woman. They were not married by law. Kilter was looking to to pay off the balance for the land and was also seeking the court to state that Mary Cowan could not in the future seek money for the homestead or claim ownership.

The plaintiff was unable to sell a tract of land as the land could have been claimed by the defendants on their fathers death. The plaintiff wanted the court to issue a sheriffs deed in which the plaintiff could sell the land with out the threat of the Wells family trying to reclaim the land.

View Entry 1879 J. D. Bond v. E. L. Jordan & Andrew McGregor Wilson Land and Title Dispute

In 1878 Jordan recovered a judgment against Bond at the Wilson County circuit court for the sum of $1233.85. A tract of land Bond owned was levied against the judgment, but it was not sold, simply held. The sheriff had been unable to sell the land and attempted a sale venditioni exponas. The suit was filed to recover the land, and to have the debt repaid in full, rather than at whatever amount the land sale could garner. Unknown page count in MT6. There are 147 pages in MT1144.
