The issue is paternity. Two men claim to be the father of an orphan child, Brewer insisting that the mother, Florida Mason, told him on her death bed that he is the father, and he wants to adopt her and make her legitimate. Jefferson insists someone named York Cooper is the father, and Cooper wants Jefferson to continue caring for the child.

Graham sued the railway for damages after trains kept killing heads of livestock. In all a milk cow, Jersey bull, other bull, 7 hogs, and a calf were killed on the tracks, totaling $239.50 in damages.

Ike A. Chase rented his farm to D. C. King. The contract stipulates that he rents as shares part of his place known as Burch Place for the year 1917. King agrees to care for the place himself and cultivate all tillable land that is practicable. He also agrees to cut no timber or dispose of any. In January of 1918 Chase wanted to reclaim possession of the farm but King would not leave.

The original trial found in favor of the plaintiff awarding him $2,140. The brief consists mainly of letters between the defendant to the plaintiff with the defendant updating him on the status of paying his debt. The defendant seems to have trouble. At one point he mentions how during the war he lost everything except his land and that the planting of cotton is not as good as it used to be. The two parties appear to be cousins.

Jim Gillis was convicted of murder in the first degree. He was convicted of killing Mattie Fielder. All parties involved are colored. Jim Gillis shot Mattie Fileder multiple times and set fire to her. He had been living with her prior to the murder.
