B. F. Stoltz, as administrator of Henry Stoltz, entered a mortgage with the defendants on 61 acres of land as part of a mortgage, exempting his homestead from the agreement. The defendants alleged that the mortgage was unpaid. They placed a lien on the property, then filed suit to foreclose. Stoltz did not attend the procedure, and his land and homestead were foreclosed upon and sold. Stoltz sued to invalidate the sale and get his homestead back. |

In 1891 the plaintiff, a section hand employed by the defendant, was injured by falling dirt while digging under an unsupported earth embankment. Injuries to the plaintiff's hip left him "a cripple," for life. Plaintiff brought suit seeking damages for negligence. Casefile notes the plaintiff earned $1.00 per day. |

Myers was an employee of the railroad company as a brakeman. He was performing duties between two cars on a freight train when two drawheads and pins were not properly fitted for the cars or properly loaded as an iron rail was projecting out from one of the two cars. The cars jolted and the iron mashed Myers' hand, crippling it for life and making him unable to work. Suing for $20,000, including medical care the Defendant failed to pay. |

A fatted hog was stolen from Martha Durham Coke's residence in 1874. Coke owned the hog with Mr. Parker. Trevathan was tracked from Coke's property to his own, his shoe found to match the tracks. At his property a barrel full of recently butchered pork was found. |

Judd brought plaintiff into court to contest the size and value of the homestead determined & set asside by three freeholders. Plaintiffs remaining land was further reduced, and he called into question the validity of the Court to pass this judgment. |

Holman and Dozier was a partnership composed of Gus Holman and Thomas Dozier. Defendant in error brought suit seeking payment for debt due by delivery of a crop of tobacco. Def. rented two acres of farmland from his father, P. H. Corkran, who had previously rented the entire farm from J. W. Morehead. After the def. sold his crop to the pla., Morehead brought suit against the pla. to enforce a lien. Pla. and Morehead settled the suit out of court and plaintiff withheld payment to the def. |

Peace had rented the house on High Street from Cheatham but had not paid for during the 20 months she lived there. Andrew Johnson as Military Governor issued an order in 1862 that the house was to be used by the U. S. Government. |

The state alleged that Johnson Gaines "colored" assaulted Charley Smith with a "hickory stick" inflicting mortal wounds causing him to instantly die. Bridges, deputy sheriff, obtained judgment in court for $104.74 against Y.W. Davis. Davis had crop of tobacco on land of Y.S. Williams (2/3 was Davis' and 1/3 was Williams'). Two executions were issued by Y.E. Morrow, justice of peace, against Davis and levied by E.W. Williams, constable, upon Davis' interest in this crop of tobacco. Bridges asked Williams if he could levy his execution in favor of G.W. Davis on Y.W. Davis' interest in the tobacco. |
