This is an appeal. Original case saw C.W. Davies accused of assault with intent to commit murder in the first degree. On June 26, 1888, Davies was said to have attacked Harry D. Martin with a club. Incident began over a perceived slur from Martin. Attack took place at Glendale Park, where Davies was a policeman, on the porch of the Casino, an amusement hall. |

In the original case, Darnell was accused of unlawfully, willfully and feloniously and maliciously assaulting, beating and wounding a person with a unlawful and deadly weapon which was held in the hand with the malicious and felonious intent to kill and murder against the peace of the state. Edwards, an African American woman, was found guilty of "unlawful and profane cursing and swearing" and using the "scandalous, vulgal, and profane language "god damned whore" in a public place-Patton St." She was fined $2.50 and all court costs, which she was to work off at the Knox Co. workhouse. The witness for the state claimed she was arguing loudly in the street with Lizzie Moore. Edwards denied using curse words or God's name in vain. |

This is an appeal. Original bill saw indictment of King on charges of assault with intent to commit murder in the second degree. On Oct. 27 1887, King said to have attacked & wounded Reuben Sullivan with a knife. Sullivan rented land from King. Sullivan stated he was hauling corn for King who confronted him in the field & stabbed him multiple times incurring shoulder, arm, torso & abdomen wounds. Argument possibly over percentage of crop each was due. King sentenced to 18 mos. In TN Penitentiary |

Cause of Action: FALSE PRETENSE. Horace West was charged with fraudulently representing himself that his wife and kids were dead and that he was in need of $8 for their burial. He also claimed that Frank Bouden told him to get the money from Alford & Lucinda Lumpkin. After being found guilty, Horace West moved for a new trial. Woodard then assaulted Black with a knife against the peace and dignity of the State. Cause of Action: Permitting road to contract. The defendant, owner and operator of the Columbia Central turnpike which runs from Columbia and through Mt. Pleasant in Maury County, is accused of permitting obstructions along the turnpike that encumber traffic and also of constructing the road at 19 feet wide in certain places when the charter calls for the road to be 30 feet wide between the ditches. |
