The Kennedy’s were accused of murdering James Thomas Lowrie. The specifics are not known. Josephus was found not guilty and General and John were hung. John Kennedy is also listed as John Davis. The first trial was held in Marion and then the Kennedys appealed to have the trial moved because they felt the jurors were prejudiced. In the end only John was found guilty. |

Victim: Orvil Wilkins. Lillian Gardner, ex wife of defendant. They married October 4, 1921 in Hardin County. They had one child, Orvil Wilkins, deceased who died at the home of Gardner's stepfather, Bab Spencer. Gardner claimed that Wilkins often abused the baby who was only a few months old. |

The state alleged that Johnson Gaines "colored" assaulted Charley Smith with a "hickory stick" inflicting mortal wounds causing him to instantly die. Fitzgerald was accused of the felonious and willful first degree shooting murder of Dorsey McMillan on Sept. 24, 1933. Fitzgerald appealed his initial conviction of 2nd Degree Murder. McMillan is variously spelled McMillian, McMilland, etc. Fitzgerald and McMillan got into a fight during a craps game, Fitzgerald came back with a shot gun and killed McMillan. |

Wilbur Hubbard, col. for the malicious shooting of Mattie Lee Johnson, wife of dfnt., as "the indictments growing out of trans actions taking place at the same time and being inseparably interwoven." Shooting occurred on June 11, 1932 at John & Mandy Edwards' café/dance hall in Halls. Dfnt. shot Mitchell, Mattie was over the body of Mitchell when Hubbard shot her in the back. |

The dfnts. were accused of the first-degree shooting murder of Roscoe Wilmeuth on Dec. 20, 1931. Maze is spelled variously as Mays. Wilmeuth had warrants issued for Jess Martin and Denver Holcomb. Wilmeuth was looking for someone to serve Martin the paper at the time of the shooting. As he was dying, Roscoe identified Maze Martin as the shooter. |

State charged Sam Holland with the murder of Willie Wright when the victim was at the home of Suzie McClannan, who first confessed to the murder for fear of Holland. The circuit court sentenced Holland to a life of hard labor at the state penitentiary. There are two executive letters that seem unrelated to the Holland case: One from the State of Tennessee authorizing an agent of Arkansas, W. R. Cain, to apprehend fugitive Cincinnati Pearson, the other is from the State of Arkansas appointing said agent. |

Indicted for Murder in the 1st, the jury returned a conviction of Involuntary Manslaughter. Martin was accused of killing "Artie or A. H. Gilchrist". Martin was a struggling farmer, and became indebted to Gilchrist, owner and operator of a cotton gin. Gilchrist agreed to settle the debt by a sale of Martin's 18 acres of land. Martin confronted Gilchrist about the picking of a crop, and during the argument shot him. In 2 folders. |

Rumors in the town asserted Davidson was keeping a house of ill repute and were peddling the services of the three women there. Davidson was shot multiple times, one on the left side, one in the left eye, two in the neck, and one in the face. Davidson was threatened by Mr. Joe Warren the Wednesday before the Saturday on which he was shot, but he believed it to be a bluff. Housed in 4 folders. |

Willie Crook, an African American man, was charged with murdering Mathew Wiggins by shooting him with a pistol in July 1926. Crook argued that he did shoot Wiggins, but that it was in self-defense. There is a note in this file from the Public Health Officer stating that Crook had an advanced case of pulmonary tuberculosis during the course of his imprisonment. |

Victim: Melvin Percer. Patterson, a deputy sheriff was accused of shooting Percer, while he and his family were on their way home from a picnic in a wagon around midnight. Percer and 2 others were driving a truck with no lights on when they accidently hit Patterson and his family. Patterson then shot Percer out of anger for hitting his family. First 4 pages of brief are missing. |

Hudson was accused of shooting and killing Will Cook. There was an dispute between Cook and Hudson over Hudson's wife. Hudson & his wife had been separated and Cook became involved with a quarrel between the two which made Hudson angry. In the statement of the case written by Pierce & Fry, the attorneys for the defendant, they ask the court to reverse the case because it was "purely a frame-up on the part of the negroes testifying for the State." |

Defendant claimed self defense. Defendant was a veteran of World War I. |

Two other bodies were found with Mrs. Moore, identified as two of her other children: Frances (a girl about 16 years old) and R. J. (a boy about 13). The fire occurred Jan. 1, 1932. Testimony vividly describes state of bodies after being pulled from fire. |
