Incomplete case file: testimony only. Because only testimony is present, case details are difficult to discern. It seems that Mrs. Addie Prince Harrell had trouble with her eyes, perhaps an astigmatism. She seems to have gotten into an accident, but was not badly harmed. She was diagnosed as neurasthenic. What she claimed to the insurance company is not stated here. Much questioning about glasses and nervous disorder. |

Plaintiff, who had a policy with the defendant, sued to collect $25 in unpaid claims plus a 25% penalty. Plaintiff also had policies with 3 other insurance companies & had filed claims with all of them. Defendant argued that her carrying aggregate insurance of over $7 violated her policy contract with them, & under the terms of the contract they were liable for only the pro rata part. Defendant had paid some of her claims before learning of the other insurance policies. |

Bessie became ill and died on Oct. 28, 1931 in Knoxville General Hospital. Pla. claims the def., in breach of contract, has refused to payout the said policy. Exhibit materials include correspondence and employment information. Bessie had a 7th grade education and made $0.21 per hour. |

Osborne & wife Mary E. Osborn jointly recovered a judgment aginst Brown & Hicks for $464, upon which a lien was declared in favor of defendants. Defendants were unaware of lien paid defendants full amount. Plaintiffs later found out that V. F. Gossett, sheriff, sued for a balance of $50 on the judgment. Petitioner was told it was at the instance of George Brown who was acting as attorney for Osborn. Petitioner claims Brown had no right to act for plaintiffs. |

Before he died, Thomas Hopkins purchased 500 acres from William B. Lewis, exe. Of William L. Lewis' dec. estate. The transaction was paid for, but no title was ever issued to Hopkins, or his heirs. The sheriff of Rhea county sold the land to Locke, not knowing it was already sold to Hopkins. Locke died intestate. Hopkins' heirs sued Locke's estate to recover the land. |

Brownlow, Special Agent of US Treasury Dept, appointed to take charge of & lease captured & abandoned property. Previous owner of the land (H.W. Swan) said to be a rebel. Land in dispute: 30 acres on Sevierville Road, 4-1/2 miles from Knoxville. Jury ruled for Wilhite. |

Shop at 1 point operated by Louis Friedman, brother-in-law of Fred Millen, who leased the premises from the Brownlows. Friedman had become indebted to Ressler, who allowed Millen's son Louis to operate the shoe repair shop until debt pd. Dispute over ownership of the shop. |
