Daniel Sullivan one of the defendants lived in Lynchburg, VA and was not a citizen of Tennessee.

Relates to a tract of land on Brown's Creek, part of the estate of William Tait, dec., and the estate of his wife, Margaret C. Tait, who died a week after him. Executors of William Tait: James Gordon, Robert T. Walker, Robert Bell, John McNairy, Margaret C. Tait. Executors of Margaret C. Tait: Robert Bell, George Bell, John McNairy. Robert and George Bell were her brothers, John McNairy was a brother-in-law.

Dispute related to land on Mulherrin Creek of Caney Fork in Smith County. Fitch Randolph and Daniel Hytton had supposedly owned the land but did not have title. Hughes had been in possession of the land since 1801 and John Orange had also lived on it. John Haywood was the chancellor in this case. The quantity of land (320 acres) did not fit the description that Hytton had given to Hughes. Also it was disclosed that Robert Douglas had a better title to the land.
