In 1867 Helton was appointed Clerk of Chancery Court of Wayne County. During his tenure he executed several bonds for $10,000 each with defendants M. J. Sims, Joseph G. Berry, and E. V. Tunnard, R. P. Cypert, C. M. Thompson, W. R. Porter & C. C. Stribling as securities. However, he failed to turn over all of the money he collected. He and his securities were sued to recover the money owed to the County. |

The heirs of Richard Cheatham, dec. were advanced more than their appropriate interests in the estate. The two youngest heirs, Boyd W. Chetham & Hugh L. W. Cheatham tried to get the remainder of the estate as they were issued a smaller and unfair bequest. Suit seeks to lawfully clarify bequests to settle dispute. |

B. F. Stoltz, as administrator of Henry Stoltz, entered a mortgage with the defendants on 61 acres of land as part of a mortgage, exempting his homestead from the agreement. The defendants alleged that the mortgage was unpaid. They placed a lien on the property, then filed suit to foreclose. Stoltz did not attend the procedure, and his land and homestead were foreclosed upon and sold. Stoltz sued to invalidate the sale and get his homestead back. |

William M. Orr died having filed a will, leaving the bulk of his estate to his wife, Mary Ann. The widow then died intestate, and this suit was filed by heirs of the Orrs to legally settle their rights to the residue of the estate. |

Two attached cases. In one, filed August 1872, Wolf sued Deborah C. and William M. Branner for $1550 debt due by promissory note. Court ruled in favor of plaintiff for $1628. The second case is a continuation of the above case, filed January 1873; D.C. Branner having remarried to John L. Lonas. Court ruled in favor of Wolf for $1545.67. |

Carter,as admr of J. M. Carter recovered a judgment for $234 against John Ahart, constable and his sureties. Land and a black mare were levied on the debt and turned over to the constable. Parts of the debt were collected by various constables, but Carter still failed to collect her judgment. Suit was filed to have the money owed her turned over to her. |

On the third day of November 1863 Joseph Sebastian, dec. died with an intact will. Whitaker and Sebastian were named executors. Sebastian's widow married William Spencer, jr. The estate included an enslaved woman, Ann, and her children who had been sent to Nancy Sebastien before her father's death. The suit was filed in order to fulfill a bequest that would equal the value of the enslaved people. |
