Additional defendants: John Short and Patrick Short. Plaintiff lent money ($1609.32) on 1-1-1873 to the defendants. Defendants promised to repay the loan on or before 1-1-1875. Promissory note remained unpaid. Defendants made one late payment on 5-3- 1875. Court record did not indicate why defendants borrowed this money. A jury trial was held. Plaintiff asked for $3000 in damages for nonpayment of promissory note.

Miller was administrator of John Miller's estate, and Brown complained that the estate owed him for a debt of $32.97. The suit began in 1867.Entered into the record was a list of work performed for the late Miller: items such as hauling turkeys; a whiskey barrel (and much whiskey); ten days of work at fifty cents a day; hauling 2,200 pounds of bacon and lard; and waiting on John Miller when he was ill, deranged, and difficult to care for. Case provides a look at labor customs and the value of labor.

Lewis was a revenue collector for Giles County. Phillips sued Lewis for $2 over a tax for keeping two dogs in 1875. Phillips claimed he paid Lewis on March 20, 1876.

Case involves amount due for the purchase of 93 bales of cotton.

Criswell sold 180 cords of wood @$3.50 per cord to Leek in March 1864. Leek paid for 90 cords and had his son delivered those cords to him. The remaining wood was left on the bank of the Cumberland River from where it washed away. Leek withheld payment for the washed-away cords of wood. Criswell sought payment from Leek who claimed Criswell breached the sales contract for nondelivery of the remaining wood. Leek claimed further the risk of loss in a sales contract remained on the breaching party.

T.M. Buck and Son was originally located on Market Street in Nashville. Moved to St. Louis, Missouri. The business was composed of Thomas M. Buck and Walter V. Buck. Operated a tin and cornice business.

Both Hust and Thomas had debts owed to one another. These debts were submitted to the court which attempted to resolve the matter through arbitration. The judges involved argued about whether or not they had the authority to set the debts aside.
