Ward & Vick, editor of newspaper at Liberty, came to Rock Island railroad station proposing to sell "sickle grinders" (aka mowing machine knife grinders) allegedly patented & designed to sharpen mowing blades. Hash agreed to buy grinders & exclusive right to sell them in Warren & White Counties & gave note to pay for same. Ward never delivered sickle grinders to Hash, but sold note to Cunningham (who had store in Rock Island w/grandson W.A. Moore), who sued to collect it. |

Bridges, deputy sheriff, obtained judgment in court for $104.74 against Y.W. Davis. Davis had crop of tobacco on land of Y.S. Williams (2/3 was Davis' and 1/3 was Williams'). Two executions were issued by Y.E. Morrow, justice of peace, against Davis and levied by E.W. Williams, constable, upon Davis' interest in this crop of tobacco. Bridges asked Williams if he could levy his execution in favor of G.W. Davis on Y.W. Davis' interest in the tobacco. |

In 1885, the plaintiff held the legal title to a house and lot and purchased a policy in 1887 from another insurance company (not defendant) that insured the plaintiff against loss or damage by fire. In 1888, the plaintiff transferred his policy to the defendant, who added on certain conditions. Later that year, the plaintiff's house burned down by no fault of his own or by violating any conditions listed in his policy, as the defendant accuses and refused to cover the policy. |

The defendants are withholding said property by virtue of a will written by Nancy Stewart. |

Bass, the assignee of W.J. Allen & Co., sued the insurance company on a policy of insurance for a stock of goods owned by W.J. Allen & Co. that was worth $2000 and was destroyed in a fire. Defendant refused to pay said sum, arguing that the stock of goods were old and were being sold below cost and was not worth more than $500. Jury ruled in favor of plaintiff for $1800. Defendant appealed. 2 folders. |

Nagle [alt. spelled Nagel] and Hall had made a contract in 1887 in which Nagle rented out his farm to Hall with stipulations regarding timber and crops. Separate contract made in 1888 for different tract of land. Nagle had demanded Hall surrender possession of buildings and premises to him. In a pending case, judgment was given to Nagle for possession of land, which would be done unless this court halted those proceedings. Judge ruled in favor of def't in both cases. |
