This case involves the title to a horse. Said horse was purchased by Ben Doss (col.) from John Boaz, brother of Sallie B. Barton, wife of C. L. Barton. Sallie Barton was also surety on said note. According to plaintiffs, Doss was to pay the note by completing work in their farm. Plaintiffs complain that Doss sold the horse to the defendant without ever working at the farm or paying for the horse. Plaintiffs are seeking ownership of the horse. |

Gillespie also spelled Gillispie. Acting as an agent for Scribner and Sons of New York City, Gillespie sold a book titled "Stanley's Darkest Africa," throughout the town of Fayetteville. Plaintiff claims that he was originally told that he was not liable for State and County taxes, but upon delivery of the books, the plaintiff was informed that he owed a privilege tax. Plaintiff refused to pay and the books were seized. |

Additional plaintiff: Gertrude Grubb by next friend E. H. Mathews. Additional defendant: J. G. Montgomery. Plaintiffs were the daughters and heirs of W. W. Grubb who died possessed and seized in fee of a large tract of land located in the 3rd Civil District of Monroe County. These lands were sold to S. P. Hale at auction to satisfy the debts of the estate. A jury of inquest found Grubb to be insane and plaintiffs sued to ify the debts of his estate and the sale of his land. 5 folders. |
