Mr. Marks of the advertising company hired Hansler to distribute to and post signs in railroad depots at Millington, Memphis, Capleville, and other unnamed locations in Tenn. The company claimed it was exempt from state taxation because the signs were printed in St. Louis. Because the company did not file a foreign charter w/the state, which was illegal, it said that the Hansler contract was invalid. Federal interstate commerce laws were violated. |

Thomas H. White & B. G. Henning owned a livery business in Memphis. Evans & his brother-in-law, George Barfield, owed money to them on a note of $393.45. John D. Tarrant bought the judgment against Evans & Barfield & claimed ownership of it in court. Judgment was stayed by A. W. Smith, the intestate of the defendant. Tarrant averred that the debt be taken out of Smith's estate. [Brads could not be removed from the transcript.] |
