The name John Moffatt is mentioned, having been given power of attorney to sell a piece of property for $808. Bosten had filed an action of ejection in an earlier hearing; this case was filed to overturn that action. |

Dispute related to land on Mulherrin Creek of Caney Fork in Smith County. Fitch Randolph and Daniel Hytton had supposedly owned the land but did not have title. Hughes had been in possession of the land since 1801 and John Orange had also lived on it. John Haywood was the chancellor in this case. The quantity of land (320 acres) did not fit the description that Hytton had given to Hughes. Also it was disclosed that Robert Douglas had a better title to the land. |

In 1865 J. W. McDaniel recovered a judgment against Matthew Simpson and Rufus Simpson for $1012.48. When the sheriff went to collect, he found no property of value. The bank of Tennessee recovered a judgment against Simpson and Stokes. Case sought to recover debt from Simpson, and involves a long string of debts with other parties, and partial payment in Confederate money. |

Deposition of John Coffee, surveyor general of the U S lands in the state of Alabama at Huntsville who in 1809 was on his way from Nashville to Jefferson. A messenger from Col. William P. Anderson to Coffee relating to a land warrant for 3000 ac. John Broadman and John Martin JPs from Madison County, AL witnessed the deposition. Thomas Brandon was clerk of the court and LeRoy Pope was chief justice of Madison County, AL in 1820. The warrant had been in the name of Martin Armstrong and in dispute. |
