Den ejected & filed suit for $500 damages. John Hodges lived on land. Duncan was "an old man" who "had no family" & lived with John "as one of his family." Howell (John's son), lived on & farmed another part of the land. Dodge & Bowman died while suit pending; their admrs. continued the suit. |

In Nov of 1864, Wilhite was arrested by US soldiers & taken to Knoxville, at which time Hickey was put in possession of Wilhite's land under lease agreement she had with William G. Brownlow, Special Agent of US Treasury Dept, appointed to take charge of & lease captured & abandoned property. Previous owner of the land (H.W. Swan) said to be a rebel. Land in dispute: 30 acres on Sevierville Road, 4-1/2 miles from Knoxville. Jury ruled for Wilhite. |

Brownlows recovered judgment against Ressler for $430 & for possession of premises at No. 310 Wall Avenue in Knoxville, where proprietorship shoe repair business was located (known as Wall Avenue Shoe Shop). Shop at 1 point operated by Louis Friedman, brother-in-law of Fred Millen, who leased the premises from the Brownlows. Friedman had become indebted to Ressler, who allowed Millen's son Louis to operate the shoe repair shop until debt pd. Dispute over ownership of the shop. |

The railroad company stated that "the company had been given the right of eminent domain for the condemnation of private property." Mary Ann Gallagher is listed as "non compos mentis." James Gallagher is her trustee and was "to hold said property in trust for the purpose of securing a homestead for said Mary Ann." |

This case is for a the petition of a tract of land, 34 acres, in Johnson County owned by the complainant and defendant as tenants in common. The land was left to them by their father, Leonard Shoun. There was a small body of land adjacent to the 34 acres but instead of getting a grant they had the original tract of land surveyed in connection with 34 acres and obtained a grant to jointly tenant for entire tract of about 370 acres. |

Jacob Baker died intestate, his land then partitioned by the heirs, & H. Stephens, Martha's husband, appointed agent to sell the land. It was sold to Mr. Cleburne, who then sold to W. Porter. This suit sought to ify these sales of the land, & return it to the heirs. Martha was placed in an asylum, making her husband the heir to the land. However, the paperwork filed with the court initially left out Martha's incompetency, & therefore were faulty in naming the appropriate heirs. |
