A lawsuit of the city of Memphis' failure to pay the interest on a group of interest warrants (coupon bonds) held by Bethel. The State of Tennessee is acting upon the behalf of Bethel.

Large & Johnson, leather goods manufacturers were forced into contracting to deliver 60% of their goods produced to the Confederacy by said Smith, a confederate agent. Payment was to be made by confederate bonds or confederate cash. Mentions also Frank Kincaid. See also box ET 742.

Plaintiff Hildrith sold a mule to defendant William Sellers Jr., who claimed he was partners with his father, defendant Williams Sellers Sr., and they would pay the following week. Sellers Jr. turned out to be insolvent and Hildrith sued to retrieve payment from the defendants for the mule.

H. & S. Abrahams ran a dry goods store in Nashville and owed Prentiss & Fouche $150 plus interest for professional law services in bringing suit on two insurance policies which the defendants filed against Aetna Insurance & Planter's Insurance for their employee Ephraim Solinsky. They failed to pay the attorneys for services, and sued to recover the amount.

The case file details the various illnesses of the Turnley family during the 1830s including sicknesses of his daughter, Amanda. Also, Turnley's wife Mahala needs medical attention frequently, during this decade before she eventually passed away. Turnely traded livestock in order to pay his debts to Helms, but Helms was dissatisfied that the debts were not completely covered.

Saunders was killed in 1861 by a man named Arness after incurring a debt from Kyle. Kyle sued Saunder's estate to be paid in US currency rather than Confederate funds which he was paid with.

Plaintiff believed that he was entitled to livestock and several other personal property that the defendants had seized and detailed wrongfully without authority.

Additional Plaintiffs: Abraham Bohm and Samuel Fleischman. The plaintiffs were partners in the Cincinnati-based mercantile firm of Bohm Brothers and Company.

Mathis and Giles had captured the person responsible for shooting Foster's son. Foster offered a reward for the capture, but refused to pay. Defendants Mathis and Giles sued and won in local court and Circuit Court, so Foster appealed to Supreme Court. Shooter is listed as Jack Merriweather, noted as being a negro.

Castellan & Marley executed a promissory note promising to pay Swan $2k but they failed to pay. They attached store merchandise for payment, along with multiple notes owed to them by others. Thorough inventory of groceries, revealing the type of items stocked in the 1850s.

Case involves merchandise traded in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia in a forced partnership of McClary & Blackford. At time of settlement of partnership, assets did not cover debts and because McClary failed to pay his portion, Blackford was sued for entire amount.
