This dealt with Confederate treasury notes which was used in exchange for bank note in February 1862. The Union Bank of Tennessee would not honor the notes. The laws of War were in place which prevented payment of note. One year later the note was presented to a New Orleans Bank and they would not honor it either because it was Confederate notes. There was money in the bank to honor the notes, but in September, 1863 the U.S. Military authorities removed the money. |

In Nov of 1864, Wilhite was arrested by US soldiers & taken to Knoxville, at which time Hickey was put in possession of Wilhite's land under lease agreement she had with William G. Brownlow, Special Agent of US Treasury Dept, appointed to take charge of & lease captured & abandoned property. Previous owner of the land (H.W. Swan) said to be a rebel. Land in dispute: 30 acres on Sevierville Road, 4-1/2 miles from Knoxville. Jury ruled for Wilhite. |

Company's charter is to erect railroad tracts & load and unload freight on East bank of Mississippi River between Poplar St. and Beale St. John Overton owned land included within the limits and dedicated it as public ground for use as a promenade, which is controlled by the Mayor. Plaintiff wants portions of land decreed to them to carry out its charter. |
