This case is an appeal to an earlier case, "Calvin Norris & Mahalia Norris v. C. L. Dalton & Betsy Dalton", located in Box ET79.

Plaintiff in error previously had a judgment rendered against him in favor of defendant for damages. Defendant claimed in previous case that the livestock of plaintiff in error destroyed his garden. Plaintiff in error filed this case for an appeal.

In the original case, the plaintiff claims that the defendant wrongfully and injuriously and without any reasonable or probable cause whatever, caused the said plaintiff to be arrested by his body and kept detained under arrest for a space of several hours and accused of grand larceny. The case was brought to civil appeals for a new trial.

In 1911, John Wesley, the deceased husband of the defendant, became a member of the Colored Knights of Pythias in Mississippi and received a policy for $600, payable to the defendant. The membership transferred when they moved to Memphis, where the endowment increased $300. Wesley died in 1916 and the plaintiff refused to pay the endowment and a judge ruled in favor of M. Weaver for $300 and the plaintiff filed for this new trial.

In November 1930, Sam Barfield arrested J.H. Hastings, Jr. and his father, J.H. Hastings, Sr. for unlawful possession of intoxicating liquor. J.H. Hastings, Jr. said that the wrongful arrest injured his reputation and sued for a new trial.

This case file is an appeal for a case where Plaintiff alleged that defendant company sold him an ice cream cone maker, however the machine was determine to have patents held by the McLaren Corporation, who sued Plaintiff for patent infringement. Plaintiff sued defendant company for damages resulting from suit. Additional Defendant: Paul Campbell

R. B. Riggs surviving partner of N. C. Riggs & Son. Plaintiff earlier brought suit against defendant and won. Details of this lawsuit are not given.

This case seems to be an appeal only. The original case involved dispute over stud horses. Several witness testimonies are included.

Case involved a dispute over the possession of a mule, described as "one Mare mouse colored mule about 15 hand about six years rated at Seventy Five Dollars" that the defendant unlawfully seized. This case file is a motion for a new trial in a case where Plaintiffs sued defendant for an unpaid account totaling $359.11. In 1889 A. B. Saunders, a builder, contracted with defendant as an agent to build a number of small houses. Plaintiff alleged that defendant did not build the agreed upon amount of houses. Defendant filed this motion for a new trial.

This is not a complete case file…it appears to be simply a memo. Dunsmore and wife obtained a judgement against Clapp in the circuit court for some sort of debt owed to them (amount not noted.) Clapp requested a new trial because he was not present during the first trial due to illness. His request was denied by the lower court and he is appealing that decision.
