Plaintiff brings suit seeking damages for injuries caused by the negligence of the defendant. Plaintiff was an employee of the defendant at its mining plant in Hickman County and was order to board a "dump car," with a defective brake. When he attempted to use said brake, the plaintiff was thrown from the car and his foot was crushed resulting in amputation. Casefile includes a diagram of the mining works. 2 folders.

Hedge was the surety on a note for J. H. Caruthers for $125. In July 1874 Caruthers and Byrd agreed to settle the debt by delivering a mule to Hedge. Bird wanted this mule back and Hedge sued for fraud.

Campbell levied one colt, mule, calf, and yoke of oxen, to satisfy an execution by T. S. Broom, as well as debts to others. The documents recommend that the livestock be sold to satisfy the debt.

J. G. Briggs was an agent of W. B. Russell in 1873, engaged in the business of buying peanuts. He made a purchase from John Nix, Jr. to be delivered to Nashville. The parties signed a contract for this agreement. John Nix, Sr. was also engaged in the selling of peanuts. The buyers failed uphold their part of the bargain suing to enforce the contract.

The defendant is charged with causing filth to be collected and remain in Piney Fork and Beaverdam creeks near its manufacturing facility. Witnesses living close to the streams claim the water is filled with refuse material, making it undrinkable and killing fish. Said refuse material was the result of washing ore and charring wood. Exhibit materials include correspondence between the Southern Iron Co. and J. A. Bates. Add. material located in MT 893.

Plaintiff entered into contract with defendant to deliver coal from 3000 cords of wood at rate of 5 cents/bushel of coal produced. After plaintiff completed 1/3 of contract, he was compelled to complete other contraction (road, hearths, house). Def. refused to advance money needed to complete contract. Circuit Court judgment against Def. and their securities J.H. Moore and W.P. Clark for $439.33.

This bill alleged that the deed for land was given to plaintiff by a Thomas Gale, but before the deed was registered with the county it was lost. Bill alleged that land was owned by Beaver Springs Co. Case filled to determine ownership of property.

These two suits were brought against the defendant, Southern Iron Co., for damages for the cutting off of the foot of the infant son of William Powell and Molly May Powell. The Powells claimed the defendant's train was negligent in its operation of train cars that resulted in serious injury of the plaintiffs' child and the loss of the child's foot. The plaintiff, 9 years old at the time, was injured when playing on a turntable belonging to the defendant and located close to the station or depot near the town of Centerville.
