View Entry 1812 David Dement v. Wallace Kirkpatrick Sumner Debt Dispute

In March of 1809 Wallace Kirkpatrick owed Dement money. Together they owed on a surety a larger sum that Dement was pressed to pay. Dement purchased land near where Andrew Jackson and John Hutchings built their gin house. Kirkpatrick was bound to pay Dement $250 in order to ify the debt.

Stilwell. James Collins died leaving his estate to his children, the aforementioned pltfs and dfnts. The partition of James' real estate brought the parties to court.

In 1792 Turnbull obtained a judgment against Robertson for $575 concerning a land sale. Elijah Robertson then died, and his heirs were involved in multiple suits like this one in order to settle his estate, debts, and legally finalize land ownership. Exhibits include an original land grant.

A. L. Dickerson died intestate in 1864, Thomas Sanderson took out letters of administration on the estate. A. L. died with a large estate of land. However, Rebecca Dickerson had never been assigned a dowry. The suit seeks to settle the estate and to insure no lands are sold until financial matters are clarified legally.

The defendants and plaintiffs entered a partnership in 1804, the terms of which were disputed later. The lease concerned land within the "Indian boundary" near Post Oak Springs that the plaintiffs claimed to have acquired permission to lease from a Cherokee man "Dry Scalp" or "Dry Sculp" (name or location?) for the purpose of opening a "Public House" for travelers. Mentions South West Point (Kingston). Appealed to the Supreme Court of Error and Appeals in Hamilton District.

Pages 3-39. James Hankins's wife Nancy was widowed by James Skaggs in 1840. Skaggs willed to Nancy, their children, and testators his land and negroes. Slaves named Ned, Easther, Mariah and her son Peter. Controversy arose after the sale of all the negroes--except Ned. Also involved was John A. McKinney.
