Wm Anderson passed by graveyard 1/4 mile from Chattanooga when he heard noise & found dead body of James Allison. Davis & Allison were both from Pittsburg, PA (where Davis had wife & children) & the 2 men roomed together in TN at Robinson house. Jury found Davis not guilty of 1st degree murder but guilty of 2nd degree murder, & sentenced to 15 yrs. Others mentioned: Sweat, old man Taylor. Also mentioned: Dugger's Grocery. Davis asked SC for new trial based on exclusion of material witness. |

Jury found Bowling not guilty of assault w/intent to kill, but guilty of assault & battery, but court arrested the judgment & discharged Bowling because the indictment was not for simple assault & battery & jury didn't convict Bowling on charge that WAS in the indictment. |

Wilson charged with wearing a concealed weapon (a Bowie knife) under his clothes. Jury found him guilty, but judgment arrested for some fault in the indictment record & State appealed to Supreme Court. When warrant issued to apprehend Wilson & bring him before Supreme Court, he could not be found & Sheriff reported he was then (Sep 1851) confined in Meigs County jail for house burning. |

Martin charged with unlawfully retailing spirituous liquor on Sunday by selling whiskey to Berry Brown & others. After jury found him guilty, Martin asked judge to arrest the judgment, arguing indictment did not accuse him of selling liquor on certain day. Judge agreed & arrested the judgment, & Attorney General appealed that ruling to the Supreme Court. |
