William Blackman married Polly McKinney & received as a gift an enslaved woman called Phillis. Isham Uzzell then married Blackman's daughter Ann, & rec'd as a gift Winnah & Rachel, the children of Phillis. The case documents detail John Rice trading enslaved people in New York, Rhode Island, Maryland, & bringing them south to sell. The estate exe., Elisha Rice died shortly after Rice, leaving Rice's heirs to settle business matters between Dillon & Rice. |

Sally Haden of Rowan, NC married William Merrill, & her father William loaned Sally an enslaved girl Dinah, a boy named Harry. Her father bequeathed the enslaved to Sally & after her death her children. When she died some of the enslaved were at other estates. The suit was filed to return the enslaved for the benefit of Sally's children. Dinah's children included: Milly, her children Dinah, Randolph, Dicey. |
