Reid worked for Thomas G. Bradford, editor of the Clarion newspaper as his journeyman running the printing press, until Bradford became insolvent later that year. Reid agreed to take Bradford's household furniture as payment. The defendants were owed money by Bradford as well. Reid filed an injunction to prevent any thing conveyed by Reid to him from being taken as collection on debts owed the defendants.
