W. L. Donegan was distilling brandy at an apple cider still for Stewart, under a contract wherein each would get half of the brandy produced. Jordan was to pay the government tax on the brandy production. Apparently Donegan was not able to produce brandy that was worth drinking. Jordan had already paid the tax amount and sued to recover the money.
