W. Henry. In 1872, William Hale was found guilty of killing (manslaughter) Calvin Kearley. Martha sued Hale for $10,000 in damages for unlawfully killing her husband. She recovered a judgment of $300 plus court costs and therefore charged that Hale was justly indebted to her.
