Elbert S. Cox v. James Crumley

Crumley accused Cox and a band of scoundrels of roughing up him, his wife, and daughter at the end of the Civil War. The deed occurred at the Crumley home in Washington County; the family were in their night clothes. James's brother-in-law, Jackson King was murdered. Testimony is made about the character of several men, particularly Cox; W. B. Nichols; Joshua Carter; and Isaac Hamilton, who was accused of wanting to kill Dr. Jo Clarke. Includes tales of whippings, barn burnings, and talk of murder.
