William Ferris died in 1861. The original admr. named in his will refused the duty & Layton was appointed. Layton failed to settle debts left by the estate. Layton was sued to recover $141 dollars in debt due from the estate to its lenders. The heirs expressed frustration at Layton's failure, but all money left by the estate had been used, and the heirs did not want the Ferris land sold to pay the debts.
