In 1857 Alexander Lowe as trustee for his wife Susan leased lot in Nashville to Buchanan Lanier, under the agreement that Lanier would build a house of market value $17,000. The lease was to end in 1867, & the house was to be turned over to Lowe. He was also to make annual payments. Although the house was built, Lanier became insolvent failing to pay the rent. Lowe assigned his rights to the property to Noel who sued to recover the debt.
