Morris accused of 2nd degree murder of Samuel G. Smithson, by knife wounds, as result of altercation that took place at a picnic at the Choctaw School House in Williamson County in August 1887. Def. lived in Marshall County, 3 miles from Choctaw. Possible that def. was African American, as testimony was that Smithson said to Moses: "You aren't fit to be among white folks." Dr. J.G. Core treated Smithson before his death & carried him home.
