McCracken originally found guilty of first degree murder in the shooting death of Ben S. Young, a whiskey dealer, on 22 Oct. 1892. Young lived about 3 weeks, died 19 Nov. 1892. McCracken argued that he fired in self defense. McCracken & Young had been arguing over rent. McCracken said rent payment was responsibility of Millard Crowe, who rented the shop from Young. (McCracken worked in the shop & had a room there.) Shop located above Young's saloon. Note: Mrs. Nannie Collier widow of Young.
