In 1862 West hired an enslaved boy named Jasper from Young, & paid with a note for Confederate currency, the Federal Army occupied the area shortly after. Young also agreed to work in R. R. West's warehouse, drying & shipping wheat. Young sold many items for West, seeking a credit for the debt on hiring Jasper. The value of the note declined following the fall of Ft. Donelson.
